Happy Holidays!]]>My bike mechanic checked over the bike and noticed a couple big issues with it. The bottom bracket was loose, the wheel nuts were not tightened and the brakes were hanging on by a thin brake cable thread. Let's talk about that bottom bracket. Older bikes, the bottom bracket is usually adjustable and can be tightened. Modern bikes use a sealed cartridge bottom bracket. Those aren't adjustable, so to fix this issue, you now have to remove the entire bottom bracket (labour intensive) & replace with a brand new one. I highly recommended to my customer, to bring it back to the big box store and ask for a refund.
I cannot emphasize enough to spent a few extra dollars, buy a reputable name brand bicycle from your local bike shop and get what you pay for. Included in your price, is the priceless knowledge and service of a bike shop that know what they are talking about. The big box store bicycles simply do not hold up and are unsafe. In the majority of the cases, the bicycles are not assembled correctly or have such poor quality parts that the bike will be in repair every few weeks. Another option is to buy brand name bikes used, from your local Kijiji or from our inventory of used bikes.
The most disappointing part about big box store bikes, it may have now left a very negative impression of biking as a whole on that particular persons mind. And they are extremely frustrated when they are left with a garbage bike which adds to our landfill that simply does not work how it should.
Our biggest recommendations before purchasing your next bike:
1. Do your research and think about what you want to get out of your bike.
2. Visit a couple bike shops before committing to a bike.
3. Ask for their return policy in case it is not what you thought it would be (At Go Dutch, we give every customer 2 weeks time after purchase or else money back)
Unfortunately, yes.
The good news is, our Go Dutch bike inventory this year is not affected by this shortage as we have plenty of brand new and used bikes in stock again this year. The truth is however, for many bike shop owners that due to the huge demand for bikes and supply chain issues in 2020 and 2021, all the major bike manufacturers are still struggling to get their bike shipments to North America.
With summer around the corner, we highly recommend you to browse through our inventory and to not wait as the bikes that you currently see do tend to sell quicker than normal. Another good point to keep in mind, at Go Dutch we try and find you the right bike. If you purchase any bike from us (on sale or not), we will give you 2 weeks time to figure out whether that particular bike is right for you. If not, we are happy to provide you with a full refund or we will help to find you another bike.
Happy shopping!

There is no such thing as a female frame and a male frame in my opinion. In the Netherlands, both men and women use the same frame style, which is often the step-through frame for ease of use when getting on and off the bike.
I often get asked when someone is looking at a step through bike, isn’t that a girls bike and the answer is, it truly is not tied to any gender and it totally depends on your preference. I think that back in the early days of biking, women could more easily ride their step through style bikes while wearing a skirt making it feel more like a female bike. I personally also strongly feel that a cross bar frame bike really adds to the beautiful classic aesthetic of the bicycle.
Not often, but sometimes we come across almost low rider step through frames in our stock. Ideal for the elderly and those with mobility issues getting on and off a bike more easily, having to only slightly lift your legs.
So next time that you are looking for a bike, think about what you are looking for in a bike and what you prefer in getting on and off your bike.
